Ski season is here! Did you train your legs?

Updated: Dec 7, 2023

Hey! It's Ski Season! Are you ready? Legs in shape? Ready to hit the slopes hard on day one????

Or…

...have you been like me and enjoying Taco Tuesday and sometimes forgetting about ski fitness?? (Next to skiing, Tacos are my favorite thing).

It's not too late to get those legs active and ready for the slopes. 💪

I have TWO easy exercises to help you get ready for this season and strengthen your lower extremities. This will help prevent the dreaded ACL/MCL injury, as well as build those "killer quads":

Don't just take my word for it, let my legs do the talkin'. If I can do this at age 45, with a full-time job, two cats, a million hobbies, and a love of Tacos... so can you!

The exercises:

I recommend doing both of these, however, if you only have time each day for one, do the one I tagged for your sport.

Skiers:

If there is only ONE exercise you have time for… this is the one: https://youtu.be/ajjpLH0pU3I

The reverse staircase lunge is important as it forces your front knee out over your foot for balance... which is key in downhill skiing.

The key in this exercise is GO SLOW, way way slower than the video is showing. Think of doing that exercise in "super slow motion" to where it will take 5-10 seconds per rep.

This is all about balance and total time spent under tension. Strength + stability, not cranking out fast reps.

Snowboarders:

Here is your ONE... the Jumping Squat. (It’s the second exercise on the Burton list) https://discover.burton.com/discover/s/article/snowboarders-workout?language=en_US

The key to this one is to turn it from a regular jump into the jumping squat. You MUST remember to raise your knees to your chest when jumping.

This motion gets you the “hops” needed for park tricks and increases your stability/coordination and flexibility. More importantly: it teaches a soft controlled landing.

Again, BOTH are recommended but aim for at least one for your primary sport.

So… get ready!!! This season will be epic. 💪🎿🏂
